We believe that travelers experience confusion when reviewing who is joining the trip because they can't RSVP for their household and alleviating that pain would let travelers represent their total RSVP count, although they'd have to manually add others who are not going to RSVP.
• Insert plus-one feature into existing invite flow with minimal interruption
• Make it easy for travelers and planners to add, view and manage their plus-ones on a trip
In the final iteration, we brought forward the feature of inviting others through the modal alongside the option to add plus-ones. The reason behind this decision was to encourage travelers to actively participate in the trip, which boosts overall engagement. While the option to include plus-ones is still accessible, it now assumes a secondary role. Nonetheless, both actions—inviting and adding plus-ones—effectively address the initial issue of ensuring an accurate headcount for the planner.
On the overview page, plus-ones can be viewed by clicking on any traveler avatar with a count label. This action triggers a modal that lists the names of each additional traveler as well as who they're traveling with (i.e. Max's group).
This was a feature that initially appeared straightforward but had a ripple effect throughout the app. One notable instance was the consideration of how plus-ones would be displayed on various sections of the tripsite beyond the overview page, such as in voting and polls. We also had to think about whether travelers with plus-ones should be able to cast votes on behalf of their entire group—to maintain simplicity, we decided not to let their presence influence the voting process.
